With the Canadian legalization of cannabis in full effect some have started to wonder, “is travelling with green a legal option?”Well the answer is a little hazier than anticipated…

International travel vs. domestic travel is the defining factor for our green passengers. Vacationers travelling over international borders can under NO circumstance travel with any cannabis, be it recreational or medically prescribed. This zero tolerance policy applies even to areas where marijuana has been legalized or decriminalized. Lets bring these dry policies to life with a real life scenario.

“For our cannabis consuming Canadians we must warn, travelling over any international border with cannabis is a criminal offence that could very much lead to an arrest and subsequent prosecution.”

After a weekend seeking altitude euphoria in Whistler, B.C. shredding the powder, one might wonder, “can I bring my green goods back to Seattle with me?” Seattle, Washington passed a law way back in 2012, legalizing the recreational use of marijuana for adults over the age of 21. This may lead some to believe that travelling from British Colombia to Washington, two states where marijuana has been legalized would be completely kosher, but that is not the case. For our cannabis consuming Canadians we must warn, travelling over any international border with cannabis is a criminal offence that could very much lead to an arrest and subsequent prosecution.

On a lighter note, that’s not the case when travelling domestically! Our friendly domestic borders from province to province allow for travel with up to 30grams of legal cannabis and cannabis infused products. The limits and regulations may vary slightly from province to province, so it’s always safer to do a little research prior to your green travels. The usual luggage restrictions apply, including the 100ml limit to liquids in your carry-on. This limit applies to all liquids, including cannabis infused oils.

All in all, international travel with marijuana is a no go, but feel free to fly high within our safe, domestic Canadian borders!
